Motorsport’s LS7 supercharged jet sprint boat engine

For all you guys out there a little keen on GM products here are some pic’s of Phonsy from GM Motorsport’s LS7 supercharged jet sprint boat’s engine.

The LS7 engine is fitted with better crank, rods and pistons along with one of Phonsy’ s cams and valve gear. Carbon fibre rocker covers finish the engine off.

Running a Procharger and MoTeC m800 ecu along with 16, 1600cc injectors, the engine was set up to use methanol and no intercooler however after 5 long days of engine dynoing we switched back to standard race fuel and 120 lbs injector and then fitted a water to air intercooler. The engine was far happier at this point and we were able to finish the tuning.

The supercharger was used for quick throttle response for jet boat racing instead of turbo’s, however I would like to see it return in the off season and test the difference between the turbo as I believe the throttle response of a good set up turbo engine would still deliver the goods.

GM Motorsport decided on this combo for its light weight and low centre of gravity, the complete package comes in at 220 kilogram. Power wise I don’t want to give too much away to Phonsy’ s competition however I can say it was north of 1000 hp with torque to match.

Gm Motorsport had their work cut out for them as we only finished it at 11pm on Tuesday night with it still to be refitted to the boat and then packed on the big boat for the trip to New Zealand for the world Jet Sprint Championship.

So the best of luck from all here at Nizpro to the Phonsy and the GM Motorsport team, as a project of this size is very difficult to get right this close to an event. As far as Phonsy’ s record goes he has already won the Australian Championship in Group A this year and it was his first full season.

Go get them boys!

Simon G - Nizpro Turbocharging.

The final tune was 296rwkw (limited by the stock clutch slipping), once the new clutch is fitted we expect to see over 300rwkw.
Benefit of Nizpro Stage 2

Benefit of Nizpro Stage 2

Ok we often talk about how our kits are a complete package fit straight on offer the best power vs dollar kit on the market but here is the cruncher. Two cars very recently have been clobbered by the cops and sent an Environment Protection ACT 1970- section 55 AC Notice to have vehicle tested for emission control system and Noise Notice.

Now up until now Ford’s BA/BF have escaped from the coppers having a good look at them as they have been concentrating on the Supra, GTR and 200 sx guys but don’t think this will stay this way for long, in fact I reckon the tide has turned. Both cars that have been caught recently were fairly standard on the outside except for GT strips on one an a personal rego plate on the other.

The police are well and truly up to speed with the XR6T and its hot up potential and they are not big fans and are now starting to cause owners of modified Falcon as much grief as possible.

Now for you that haven’t been through the whole cars got a EPA infringement notice on it, I will give you an example of worse case scenario. Some years ago a new customer of ours turned up to get some work done on his 200SX Nissan, it had already had stacks of gear thrown at it from a few different outlets and a fair bit of it was good and a few bits were crap which is why it was at Nizpro. Bit by bit we slowly got back to getting it right and at last it was proving reliable.

Next thing Dave the owner turns up with EPA notice as above and I delivered him the bad news, sorry Dave your in the shit. The guys that now enforce this stuff are now very up to speed so you will have to put it back to stock. Dave assured me that they wouldn’t know and we returned as much as we could to standard with parts that were available. Problem was that many of the standard parts had been thrown out over the years and factory replacement parts were either horrendously expensive or were no longer available. But we did our best to make it look standard.

A few days latter Dave comes back in with his tale between his legs, “ didn’t pass did it Dave I said” “Nope”

The drama now begins as he can no longer sale the car because he cant get a road worthy and its worth nothing with out rego and cant get all the bits to put it back to standard and even if he could what he going to do with all the racy bits. You see the powers the be are a wake up to the old pull all the shit off, go get it tested and then throw the stuff back on again. This has been going on forever. Answer they take a photo of the car as it is presentment to the testers and if this is not the way it is when you get pulled up the next time and you are the same owner, big trouble.

In the end Dave went out and purchased a dead stock second hand 200 sx to pull all the standard stuff off and fit it to the modified 200 of course including the engine as that was also modified. Once it was back to standard he returned for the test and passed. He then sold the first car back in standard trim along with all the modified bits shoved in a box in the boot.

Car two, we now set about modifying it with all Nizpro gear that has passed the EPA testing. Problem solved. Three months later two cars and a heap of cash Dave and his new 200SX is back on the road.

So guess what? When two of our customer that have full Nizpro Stage two Cobra kits get this same notice what happens. Well they turn up here first of all worried shit less. Secondly I give them a photo copy of our Nizpro Emission paper work and then head down to be tested. A pass quickly follows and they are now back to driving their modified XR6T’s and F6”s the same day. Complete with Intake plenums, cold air intake kits and hi flow intercoolers.

And people still wonder why they should buy a Nizpro kit. Guaranteed Parts at a Guaranteed Price in a Guaranteed time with a Guaranteed result.

STAGE 2 KIT - YOU CAN NOW HAVE 300+RWKWAND THE CONVENIENCE OF FINANCE!

INTERCOOLER COMPARISONS

INTERCOOLER COMPARISONS

Development of Nizpro's new intercooler is now completed and the first production version will go on sale very shortly. The new cooler design is a bar and plate and although I have had reservations over this style in the past after many new core designs have been tested over the last 18 months we have now proven that our new design is the best by a long way when taking all the factors of the below list into account. The size of the new cooler is the biggest you can fit in the car without modification to the AC system and even with this restraint, the cooler is still the biggest we have seen on the market.

The new cooler had a number of design parameters we needed to meet.
Due to the increasing power levels that are now being achieve in our own Cobra kits these were the parameters that needed to be meet.

* Higher flow characteristics at less pressure drop.
* Better cooling effect at all boost levels
* A cooler design that would still fit with the least amount of modification to the vehicle.
* A cooler that would be could be used with all our Cobra kits.
* A direct replacement cooler that was a bolt up using the standard Ford intake manifold
* Price competitive.
* A cooler of the highest quality that is expected of all our products.

To achieve the above we firstly needed to test all the main current intercooler on the market, these comprised of the Process West stage 1 and 2 and Plazmaman range intercoolers along with the Monza [Wog], F6 Typhoon and APS cooler.

The result after 18 months of testing the above intercoolers and comparing them with our current version lead us to what was needed to produce the best cooler in both design and flexibility on the market for the XR6 T.

For testing purposes we were very lucky due to the amount of vehicles that we have thru Nizpro that we got to see other companies coolers a number of times on a number of cars with different modifications and different outputs.

Now I understand that many people will say the only true way of conducting a genuine back to back test is to use the same car at the same power level and simple change the cooler. This may have some merit, but in lots of cases the higher end of companies intercoolers range have large flow characteristics, so their cooling efficiently changes as the flow rates are increased. How they cool at lower rates 300ish rwkWs is different to when power levels are raised. So to conduct a test on one car by simply changing the intercooler and plumbing may leave the test venerable to these factors. The other point is we were able to test a number of cars with different modifications and yet the same cooler and see if there were any difference in the cooler performance due to intake and exhaust designs. In conclusion this way of testing gave as a better real life result due to the fact that many cars have now a range of different modifications.

Read it all here...
http://forums.nizpro.com.au/showthread.php?t=72
